Stake Out

It's been a long night. We're both wound up tight.
We're overly tired.
Both of us beat. We need a retreat.
Before tempers get fired.
Second night and we're bored. No bad guys have scored.
Hour after blessed hour.
Sitting and waiting. Talking then debating.
No wonder our attitudes sour.
Night three and I nap. The wait is from crap.
Wondering what will occur.
Soon daylight breaks. Another night's waste.
The premises still secure.
Was the lead bad? Maybe we've been had.
It's the forth night straight.
Just another night going. No leads are showing.
And the building's still watched.
The fifth night arrives. Wonder if we'll survive?
Maybe their plans got botched.
Here we go once more. Wonder what's in store.
Wait. Did you hear that?
Thought I saw something. Heard something crumpling.
Our luck it's probably a cat.
We slink out of the car. Don't have to walk far.
In unison, we see our suspects.
Broke in the side door. To steal from the store.
Grabbing up all objects.
My partner and I creep. Silently we sneak.
Soon we're close and take aim.
"Freeze!" my voice shrills. The cowards stand still.
But one of them thinks it's a game.
As the others stand straight. One tempts his fate.
Throwing a box in our path.
We duck from his throw. The anger does grow.
He'll soon be feeling our wrath.
Two I am cuffing. One's on the floor scuffling.
My partner easily takes him.
He lies still on the ground. Not making a sound.
Sure didn't take long to break him.
All three are cuffed up. None seriously roughed up.
Yes, it was worth all the fuss.
For all of the waiting. And all the debating.
We landed ourselves a great bust.
