A Secret Friend
by
Sonja H van Schalm
01/09/2001
When I was a little boy
I used to see you in my dreams
I didn't know who you were
You made me laugh
When I felt alone
I imagined you were with me
we played together
the whole day
You were a good listener
and you always knew what to say
we talked a lot and we had fun
You made me laugh
My parents never understood
why I didn't play with the other boys
They didn't know
that I had YOU to play with
I never told them about you
you were MY secret
Only I could see you
They wouldn't have understood
They would have called you
a product of the overactive imagination
of a lonely little boy
I wasn't lonely
I had you
‘My secret friend’

We’ll meet again
01/10/2001
When I was a little boy
I had a secret friend
He guided me through
the insecure years of growing up
When I became a young man
He told me, he had to go
But instead of saying goodbye
He said: "We’ll meet again."

The time we weren’t together
Were to prepare me for the day
That we would meet again
